9 years!

Engagement photo, circa 2004

9 years later!

Super thankful for this man! Each day with him is a gift. Even though he is sick, he still takes wonderful care of me pumping me full of vitamins, health advice, prayers and encouragement. We celebrated 9 years together this month on April 3rd.

Stem cells are delayed due to a stomach flare up. We'll keep you posted...

chicken soup para el alma

This is one of my wonderful students from the non-profit literacy program where I work. Maria Belen (Belen means Bethlehem en espanol) always asks about my husband and had been telling me about a chicken soup recipe that is sure to bring healing to whoever eats it. She finally went to the effort of making it along with a fresh batch of lentejas (lentils) and arroz con leche (rice with milk pudding). It was about the sweetest thing I ever experienced. She and her daughter made a special trip to my office to deliver this gift.

She said she prayed over it and made it with love.

It's friends like Belen and you all who have brought healing to our hearts on this difficult journey.

Thank you for your friendship, support, love and prayers.

The stem cell mission we intended this month is on hold. This is due to lots of infections going around and then a hold from our doc in CA re: flying with stemmies; we need to wait. It is God's good timing because N may have some kind of infection in his jaw. He is in pain and back on antibiotics. We'll keep you posted on the next step which will hopefully be getting another batch of good frozen cells. It's disappointing in that we want to move forward because he is losing weight, but we are trusting Jesus that it's ALL going to work out at the right time.

Thanks for checking in on us!

Umbilical Stem Cell Mission: February 2013

ND with Paco, Florabelle and sister Feebird during the holidays

N has not been able to do his stemmies since summertime due to being on and off antibiotics and going through intense dental procedures. He has been slowly losing weight and is down to 110 lbs. again (down from his peak of 120 lbs.). This has coincided with Lyme and coinfection symptoms that give him continual joint and muscle pain, nausea, fatigue, fevers and other crappy stuff so he's pretty dependent on antibiotics to keep things under control. The antibiotics have their own side effects so it's a ping pong game. He will be weaning off the antibiotics soon as we prepare to do another umbilical stem cell treatment in two weeks. It's been a long time coming and thankfully the support we've received from so many of you will allow us to do this.

He is still able to walk around the house and sometimes outside; he can also get to drs. appts. when he needs to. It's a miracle considering that just over two years ago he was wasting away in bed at 85 lbs. with a broken spine and fractured sternum. I don't believe he would be here without the miraculous  provision of these little cells. Now on good days he says: "If you put my laundry basket on the counter, I can do it myself."

Praise Jesus for his increased independence and will to live.

We are hoping and praying this next treatment will fortify his body and immune system as it has in the past and in a new way too. He really needs a boost. Thank you anyone for praying with us!

We are so thankful to all of you for keeping up, loving, praying and supporting us in so many ways.

The Wonderful Golf Tournament!!!

Six teams of golfers showed up at noon on Friday, October 19th at the Santa Fe Country Club for the Lyme Disease Awareness Golf Tournament for Nathanael to benefit his stem cell transplant fund at HelpHOPELive. It was incredible to have their support! About 75 more folks showed up for Happy Hour! The raffle was a BIG hit and results can be seen on our facebook wall! We felt HUGELY supported! Thank you, everyone!!!

Mr. Bill Mullen flew in from California to play. As you can see he doesn't mess around. He and his team won and it was a great honor to have him kick our butts!

My best friend from high school, Dawn Marie Bath, totally surprised me as she flew in from Dallas, TX for the day to be with us. It was the best part of the whole thing for me!!! She left her 3 kids at home with hubby Mike and we had a blast! Thank you, Dawnie, for this gift!

Captain Kevan Morshed of the vessel HelpHOPELive and Coach Matt Borst of Team Fundraisingmadness! Their leadership made ALL of this happen to the great benefit of our hearts and Nathanael's health. These guys are our true heroes! We LOVE them!

My mom came and that was the biggest thrill for me, too. Franco seemed to have a swing for golf! Watch out Aunt Geeter! We had to call her off the 13th hole to set up for Happy Hour!

Nathanael's California Posse seen below...

Go Team Tubbery! Dawnie, Franco, Kevan, Matt, Tim M. and me!

The girls. We played as one woman for 9 holes and then Franco took over!

Kevan and his wife Alex did so much including keeping track of all donations!!! It was a HUGE success and the donations keep coming. I was so impressed with Kev's golfy outfit in the midst of all of it!!! I don't think the golf pro was happy about it though.

Hey! Look at this... me and N on the road. A miracle I had not thought I would see again. Here is the beautiful trophy that Coach Matt Borst had made for us. Now we are two time champs! He is so thoughtful and gave a beautiful speech about us.

Thank you everyone for your various means of support through love, prayers, encouragement, raffle tickets, hole sponsorships and more! It was SUCH an awesome event full of hard work, but great benefits for the coming year of Nathanael's treatments. We can't thank you enough and we'll keep you posted as best we can.

MUCH Appreciation,

N, Rox and Family
